Triumph Tiger 800 XCX (2015) – 40,000 KM Later

If you’re looking for a mid-size adventure bike, the Triumph Tiger 800 XCX is probably on your radar. But how does it hold up after 40,000 km of real-world riding? Over the last few years, I’ve taken my 2015 Tiger 800 XCX across all kinds of terrain—from smooth highways to muddy off-road tracks—and in this long-term review, I’ll share my thoughts on its performance, comfort, reliability, and whether I’d still recommend it today.

Why I Chose the Tiger 800 XCX
Back when I was looking for an adventure bike, I had a few key requirements:
✔ Comfortable for long distances
✔ Reliable enough for multi-day touring
✔ Capable of handling rougher terrain
The Triumph Tiger 800 XCX checked all those boxes. With its 800cc triple-cylinder engine, WP suspension, and off-road capability, it felt like the perfect balance between power and versatility. Fast forward a few years, and I can confidently say—it didn’t disappoint.

Performance & Handling
One of the best things about the Tiger 800 XCX is its 95-horsepower inline-triple engine. It’s smooth, torquey, and makes long rides effortless. Whether you’re cruising on the highway or pushing through twisty mountain roads, the engine delivers power exactly when you need it.
The WP suspension is another highlight. Even when hitting gravel or rough roads, the bike feels stable and planted. The adjustable settings help fine-tune the ride, making it one of the best in its class for mixed-terrain riding.
As for the rider modes, I’ve mostly used “Road” for daily riding and “Off-road” for rougher sections. Traction control and ABS do their job well, though I prefer keeping things simple—less tech, more riding!
Comfort & Touring Ability
Long-distance riding is where the Tiger really shines. After thousands of kilometers on multi-day tours across Europe, I can confidently say that the ergonomics are spot on. The seat is comfortable enough for long rides, though I did upgrade to a better touring seat for even more comfort.
Wind protection is decent with the stock windscreen, but I eventually swapped it for a taller one to reduce buffeting.

Reliability & Maintenance
Now for the big question: Has the Tiger 800 XCX given me any problems after 40,000 km? Short answer—not really.
✔ Regular oil changes, chain maintenance, and tire swaps have kept it running smoothly.
✔ The engine remains rock-solid with no major issues.
Apart from that, it’s been incredibly reliable, which is exactly what you want from an adventure bike.
Downsides & Things I’d Improve

No bike is perfect, and the Tiger 800 XCX has a few small quirks:
❌ The stock windscreen could be better—taller riders might need an upgrade.

These aren’t deal-breakers, just small improvements to make the bike even better.
Final Verdict: Is the Tiger 800 XCX Worth It?
After 40,000 km, would I still recommend the Triumph Tiger 800 XCX? Absolutely.
It’s comfortable, reliable, and versatile, making it a great choice for riders who want a mid-size adventure bike that can handle anything from long tours to off-road trails. Whether you’re a weekend explorer or planning multi-week adventures, this bike won’t let you down.
If you ride a Tiger 800, let me know your experience in the comments! And if you’re considering one, hopefully, this review helps you decide.
🏍 Ride safe and see you on the road!
